Gary H. Nichols - Bristol, TN

I carpool every day with a co-worker, Kim Nichols. These past few months have been very difficult as her brother was diagnosed with cancer.

I never knew Gary, but I do know that the love Kim felt for her brother knew no bounds. We talked often about what a wonderful man her brother was and you can see by the outpouring of love expressed on his guestbook that Gary touched the lives of many people.

I know that she had wanted to spend spring break with her brother but I also know that no amount of time is ever enough to spend with the one you love. Even if you were allowed that week, that day, that moment, our heart always screams for more. I know she was grateful for the opportunity to spend the holidays with her family.

Last week, she and I talked about things to do when your loved one passes away. I told her that when Alice passed we asked that the school didn’t buy us flowers. It’s not that flowers aren’t a loving gesture they are. We just felt it’s a lasting and loving gesture to donate to a favorite charity. For us, we donated money to a hospice house, run by the Catholic Church for the indigent and homeless.

Kim thought it would be a nice gesture to donate a book to the library in her brother’s name. I think that’s very sweet and we plan to take up money to do just that.

Below you will find his funeral announcement:
